My Story

In February 2018 I am hoping to tick off something that has long been on my bucket list, the Coast to Coast Multisport event in New Zealand. This event is iconic in New Zealand and involves a 243 km run/cycle/kayak from the west coast of New Zealand's South Island over the Southern Alps to the east coast, finishing in Christchurch.

I am competing in the two day individual event with a group of training mates from Sydney known as Team Mudwalkers. We thought we'd try and put our months of hard training to good use and raise a bit of money for a good cause. Our chosen cause is Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) as one of our team members Johnny has a young child recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong autoimmune condition that usually occurs suddenly in childhood, for reasons currently unknown. Money raised goes towards research for a cure as well as supporting those families who live with this potentially fatal condition on a day to day basis. Any donations gratefully accepted.

Blob

Team Mudwalkers has been together for over 7 years, regularly taking part in endurance and obstacle events. On Feb 10, we're taking on our greatest challenge, a 243 km run/cycle/kayak from the west coast to the east coast of the South Island, NZ known as the famous Coast to Coast. If you think that's tough, it's nothing compared to the challenges faced by people with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).

T1D is a life-long autoimmune disease that affects over 120,000 people in Australia. John's 10 year old son Gabriel, is one of those people. Having T1D requires constant monitoring of blood glucose levels and insulin therapy. The cause of T1D is not known and there is currently no cure.

Well, we want to turn Type One into Type None. We are supporting JDRF Australia in its mission to find a cure for T1D. Your kind donation will contribute to research that will make a difference to the lives of those living with T1D. The more people that know about JDRF, the greater the impact, so please help us by spreading the word and sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you.
