So many people are misinformed, or simply uninformed about Type 1 diabetes
To be honest before my daughter Georgia was diagnosed I knew nothing about it!!
When our daughter was diagnosed I received so many comments that were hurtful and completely wrong. The last thing a parent wants is for their child to have T1D.
- T1D is not preventable, it is not caused by lifestyle, eating habits or being lazy
- It is an auto immune disease which attacks the pancreas
- As the pancreas does not make insulin - Insulin is required to stay alive!
- There is no cure and people diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes will never outgrow it.
At 14 months old Sharlene's daughter Georgia was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The diagnosis came on very quickly without warning.
Georgia spent some time at Monash Children's hospital after a DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis) which is a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when your body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones.
The now nick named "Rambo" Georgia is a beautiful 18 month old toddler depicting her strength and courage each and every day.
All proceeds donated will be to JDRF in support of research and development in finding a cure for people living with Type 1 diabetes.
